Good work! I've read many of these and am familiar with most of them. A few other titles that aren't in your list: From India to the Planet Mars by Theodore Flournoy, Human Personality and its Survival of Bodily Death by F.W.H. Meyers and The Poetical Alphabet by Benjamin Paul Blood. My only reservation about your essay is that you refer to surrealism in the past tense when it's still very much happening, though it may look a little different than its classical iteration which is its point of departure.

Thank you! I was planning to include Flournoy and Meyers in the next part - definitely important! Surrealism is very much still happening, both departing and reuniting with its origins, the reason why I talk about it in the past tense is, like you said, since I’m discussing the classical origins and reading list of surrealists who worked within the movement within its initial conception.

Very cool! Sorry if I didn't understand your intention for phrasing things this way. Other additions that could be useful include Max Stirner's The Unique and its Property (once mistranslated as The Ego and its Own), Eros and Civilization by Herbert Marcuse and William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Regarding Benjamin Paul Blood: Breton and other surrealists may have been aware of him, but I only came to read Blood because of Franklin Rosemont's extensive references. Another author that belongs in the list is Malcolm De Chazal.

Thank you! I love both books as well, they were really important to understanding Leonora Carrington and her art so it was a must for my thesis, glad to see they’re appreciated!
